Sports car hire enthusiasts may be interested in the latest offering from Mercedes.

The new SLK is expected to take on other car hire favourites such as Audi's TT Roadster and BMW's Z4 when it is released later this year.

Reporting for autoexpress.co.uk, Sam Hardy noted that the SLK has retained its compact dimensions, allowing motorists to take advantage of the car's agile handling.

Changes to the old model include a new look that refines the current car's shape, while more major changes take place at the front, where the SLR-style nose has been replaced by a more upright grille.

Mr Hardy described the vehicle as "a sports car which will take the 'baby SL' tag to new heights with more powerful engines, sleeker looks and even greater luxury".

The flagship AMG model is likely to come with a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, which is expected to produce in excess of 400bhp.

According to Mercedes data the AMG will have a top speed of 155 mph and will take motorists from zero to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds.
