BMW car hire customers may have been paying close attention to the manufacturer's successful return to the Nurburgring 24-hour race last weekend (May 15th-16th).
Five years since the German marque's last victory, the BMW M3 GT2 cruised across the line in first place after completing 154 laps of the famous race circuit.
The victory was achieved despite serious gearbox problems in the final three hours, tyre trouble and a damaged radiator.
Mario Theissen, BMW's motorsport director, said: "That was a fantastic return for us at the 24-hour race. This win reminds me of the triumph in Le Mans in 1999.
"I have never known excitement like I experienced today. Thanks also to our loyal fans, who have taken us to their hearts after a five-year break and given us such great support."
Of the 198 cars lining up for this year's event, 63 were BMWs.
The BMW M3 GT2 is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine which produces 500bhp.
