enthusiasts will be pleased by news that the introduction of a soft-top version of Audi's high-performance R8 supercar has not hampered the vehicle's performance.

Writing for car magazine Evo, Nick Trott has announced his pleasure that none of the original car's driving thrills have been lost with the redesigned model.

He highlighted that Audi has employed a host of technical features to the vehicle to ensure that performance is heightened.

Lightweight materials have been used to complete the bodywork and chassis, while the engine delivers power and "ferocity" which makes it feel faster than the already lightening 4.1 zero to 62mph time.

"On first impressions it's borderline incredible that the R8 Spyder remains 99 per cent uncorrupted by the additional weight and the removal of the solid roof," Mr Trott claimed.

Furthermore, the magazine hints that motorists could soon get their hands on a slightly less powerful - and expensive - V8 version of the vehicle.

The Audi R8 V10 has recently been shortlisted to receive the World Performance Car of the Year 2010 award.
