Porsche has announced that it will be entering its remarkable 918 Spyder Concept car in next year's Nurburgring 24 Hours race.
The 918 Spyder, which is powered by a 493bhp V8 petrol engine and twin electric motors, can manage a combined maximum power output of 708bhp.
Engineers in Germany are said to be working on producing a track-focussed version of the car, which would boast a top speed in excess of 200mph.
Currently, the highly-efficient supercar is able to race to 62mph in just under 3.2 seconds and can reach speeds of 198mph.
Meanwhile,
Porsche car hire customers may be interested to hear that the vehicle could also be heading into production.
Porsche claimed that it would make it if there were over 1,000 "expressions of interest" - at the end of April it had received 900.
The 918 Spyder Concept was one of three hybrid models from the manufacturer which made their debut during the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
