Sports car manufacturer Porsche has hit the spot with its latest Boxster, it has been revealed.

In a review carried out by Top Gear, Jason Barlow draws attention to the updated styling of the vehicle, stating that this version has a much "meaner" look than previous models.

Prestige car hire fans may be interested to know that the Spyder is 18kg lighter than its predecessor, which ensures that it travels from zero to 62mph in 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 166mph.

Mr Barlow said: "Make no mistake, this is a sublime car. It has an abundance of all the things I treasure most in a sports car - performance, agility, linearity [and] character."

He commends Porsche's ability to "plug the driver right into the heart of the machine".

The car comes with Porsche's direct injection 3.4-litre flat six engine, which delivers 320bhp.

Handling and ride quality also receive plaudits from Mr Barlow thanks to the Spyder's "unflappable" chassis which grips to even the poorest quality roads.

The Porsche Spyder was debuted at the Los Angeles Motor show in 1994.
