London sports car rental enthusiasts and prestige car hire fans have a new luxury supercar to play with thanks to Mercedes-Benz's Formula One partner McLaren.

The British-based company has unveiled the 200 mph McLaren MP4-12C, which has been dubbed "an F1 car for the road" because of its features, which are designed to keep it glued to the motorway.

Equipped with a 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre components, the svelte supercar seats two and is designed to be economical and efficient.

The car's aerodynamic styling is complemented by a seven-speed F1-style paddle-shift transmission and superlight carbon fibre mono-cell similar to that featured in F1 cars.

"It is a long-held dream of mine to launch a range of high performance sports cars that set new standards in the industry," commented McLaren Automotive chairman Ron Dennis.

"I am confident that now is the right time for McLaren Automotive to become a full-line high performance sports car manufacturer."
