Sports car hire admirers may be interested to hear about the latest offering from Lotus.

The Exige S Type 72 has been described by the Times as being: "A supercharged, super-sporty and seriously scary little black number tailored for the F1 crowd."

It is named after the Type 72 F1 car and only 20 will be sold in the UK to commemorate each of the successful racing car's wins.

The newspaper commends both the price of the Exige as well as its performance, with the 218bhp car able to catapult itself from zero to 60mph in just four and a half seconds.

There is also praise for the design of the car, with details such as the paintwork and alloy wheels drawing the most attention: "Its hand-finished paint job is the work of the signwriter who created the original Type 72’s black-and-gold colour scheme," the review stated.

The Type 72 F1 car helped Team Lotus claim three Constructors' Championships and two Drivers' Championships during its time as the most successful grand prix car ever.
