The all-new Audi A8 has made its world premiere in North America in what its German manufacturer said is the conclusion of the celebrations marking its 100th anniversary.

Unveiled in Miami, Florida, the vehicle boasts "fascinating sports flair, luxurious comfort and innovative technology", according to Audi, which said its flagship is "a work of art".

During the launch attended by renowned designers, artists and Hollywood stars, Audi AG board chairman Rupert Stadler demonstrated just what makes the A8 "a design and technology icon in the premium segment".

"The Audi A8 is the flagship of our brand. Our aim was to get as close as possible to the perfect automobile," he explained.

Audi will also showcase the new model at Design Miami 2009 running from December 1st through the 5th in an exhibition entitled The Art of Progress in the Audi pavilion.

During the recent Scottish Car of the Year Awards in St Andrews, the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers named the Audi A4 all-road quattro the Executive Car of the Year.
