The Mini has scored yet another lead upstaging all other classic cars to earn the title of classic used car of all time.

The vehicle recognised by many as a representative of British coolness earned the title following a poll of 3,500 British people by MSN Cars.

The brand, which is now owned by German carmaker BMW, whose vehicles score highly among luxury car hire fans and performance vehicle aficionados, scored more than half of the vote (53 per cent).

The German-made VW Golf MK2 came second in the classic car poll with 41 per cent.

The thumbs up comes in the wake of another recent poll by Pearl & Dean, which saw the Mini earn a place in the best car chase of all time ranking, thanks to its unforgettable performance in the 60s classic film, the Italian Job.

OO7's Aston Martin DBS was also fingered as the classic vehicle from film and TV which most would prefer to buy followed by Knight Rider's 80s classic KITT and the Batmobile.
