German luxury car and executive vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has marked 100 years of selling the vehicle's models at a ceremony in Berlin - the brand's home.
The vehicle manufacturer known for luxury car hire favourites such as the S-Class and the Kompressor first registered a Daimler in the city in 1902, which was the precursor to the opening of the factory in Marienfelde in the same year.
This is now the oldest Daimler factory in the world and this special bond will always be there, according to Dr Dieter Zetsche, the chairman of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
He said: "Today and in future, too, Berlin retains its central significance for us on the way to the automobile of the future.
Part of this relationship was highlighted by last year's e-mobility Berlin project, which Dr Zetsche said was "an important step towards emission-free mobility".
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class recently won the Best Luxury Car at the What Car? Awards 2009.
