Mercedes-Benz car hire customers could be set to benefit from the introduction of two new engines, it has been reported.
Autocar has stated that the manufacturer plans to release a range of V6 and V8 petrol engines that will provide additional power and torque for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Furthermore, the new units will reduce fuel consumption by 24 per cent, as third-generation direct injection, multi-spark ignition and a revised combustion system are utilised.
According to the publication, Mercedes-Benz said: "These figures make the new V6 the benchmark in its segment for a comparable output.
"The driver experiences the same pleasant and effortless performance from the new V8 as that delivered by a mighty, naturally-aspirated 7.0-litre engine."
Among the changes being made to the existing V8 engine are a lower capacity block - from 5.4-litres to 4.6-litres - and the addition of twin turbochargers.
Meanwhile, the V6 enjoys a reduction in vibration and weight.
Mercedes-Benz announced earlier this year that it would be replacing its 6.3-litre AMG engine with a smaller, more efficient version.
