Mercedes sports car hire enthusiasts following the current Formula One season may be interested to hear that Williams driver Nico Rosberg could be heading to McLaren-Mercedes.

With Rosberg's contract up for renewal at the end of the season and Heikki Kovalainen being warned by McLaren-Mercedes team boss Martin Whitmarsh to up his game, a transfer for the German driver is imminent.

However, such a move will not come easily for the British team because Williams owner Sir Frank Williams is determined to hang on to the German driver.

"He is very much on our list," the veteran team owner told Autosport.

"I would have thought he must be on the McLaren list if they do drop Kovalainen, and I think [Mercedes motorsport president] Norbert Haug would love a German driver. We will see."

After a disastrous start to their season, McLaren-Mercedes have made a turnaround with upgrades to their cars, which resulted in Lewis Hamilton and Kovalainen qualifying in first and second position in Valencia.
