Lotus sports car fans can look forward to a new range of vehicles manufactured in the UK following news that the company is planning to invest in new facilities.
Group Lotus chief executive Dany Bahar, who recently took charge of the company, has revealed in an interview with EDP24 that a new manufacturing plant will be set up.
According to Mr Bahar, Lotus plans to boost production from the current 3,500 vehicles a year to around 6,000 or 8,000 a year over the next ten years.
"We want to invest in facilities here and bring them up to speed to a state-of-the-art level of quality," Mr Bahar told the publication.
"I see Lotus as one of three British sports car manufacturers and they have to remain British, although they may have foreign ownership," he said, adding "it's a British brand and it would be a mistake not to manufacture the car in Britain".
The Lotus range includes the Europa, Exigem Evora and Elise sports cars.
