British carmaker Lotus is to have a first among vehicle manufacturing companies by having its site in South Norfolk adopt wind power.
The company, whose vehicles such as the Lotus Eagle are liked by luxury car hire and performance vehicle fans will have its vehicle factory powered by three wind turbines from Ecotricity.
Mike Kimberley chief executive of Group Lotus expressed his delight at the new development saying not only will this power the company's offices with renewable energy, but also move Lotus "one step closer to completely sustainable green vehicles".
"The Lotus brand values of lightweight, fuel efficient, high performance sports cars are more relevant today than they ever have been, but we also lead the way in hybrid, electric and alternative fuelled vehicle research for cars of the future," he added.
The company made a statement at the British International Motor Show when it unveiled the Lotus Eco Elise, a solar powered sports car, in addition to the Evora.
