The annual Diesel Car, Car of the Year Awards presented the iconic off-roader with the accolade, after it fought off strong competition from two other Land Rover models - the Freelander 2 and Range Rover.

Ian Robertson, editor of Diesel Car Magazine, explained that the fact that the British manufacturer dominated the category was testament to its strongest model line-up ever.

"The Discovery 4 has always been unbeatable off-road and now it has the on-road ace to match, with decent road manners and top notch refinement," he added.

"There's even enough room for seven full size adults on-board - and there aren't many vehicles that can cope with that."

Motorists who opt for the Land Rover Discovery 4 will be able to enjoy its powerful and efficient choice of engines.
