Jaguar Land Rover to be designed in virtual reality

Jaguar Land Rover are to boost the speed with which new designs can be developed with the opening of a new advanced Virtual Reality Centre in Graydon.

The facility, which uses advanced audio visual technologies and the world's highest resolution projectors will speed the development cycle as designers will be able to view life-size three-dimensional representations of vehicles and their components.

Jaguar and Land Rover, both popular with prestige car hire customers, will benefit from the design boost.

Engineers at the firm will wear 3-D glasses while the equipment, which boasts resolution four times better than HD TV, tracks their eye and hand movements.

The luxury marques developed the centre in conjunction with HoloVis, whose managing director Stuart Hetherington said that the project was built on cooperation and trust.

He noted: "We spent just over 18 months working closely with Jaguar Land Rover and our chosen system partners to design, develop, test and benchmark the proposed solution prior to the project being approved. This gave everyone the confidence in the unique technological solution we were going to create, as well as our capability in delivering such an advanced turn-key system of this nature."
