McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has capped a successful year in which he secured the motorsport's championship title in his second season of competing by receiving an MBE.
The 23-year-old British driver, who became the youngest winner of the prestigious title, was among the sports personalities whose achievements were recognised in this year's New Year Honours.
"I am also very humbled to be included on the Honours list alongside all the members of the general public who have been recognised for their tireless work in such varied and worthwhile arenas," said Hamilton.
"It has been an outstanding year for British sport as a whole and it is great to see so many fellow sportsmen and women being honoured today."
Meanwhile speaking to the Guardian, Hamilton revealed that the final two laps of the Brazilian Grand Prix where he secured the F1 championship this year were the "toughest" in his career.
