Jaguar has revealed that its new lightweight aluminium chassis found on the latest XJ vehicle is central to the development of its future cars.
As well as offering a substantial reduction in weight the body also contributes toward the company's aim to reduce its impact on the environment by reducing the energy consumption required during its construction.
Furthermore the aluminium structure is made from 50 per cent recycled material, something that will be upped to 75 per cent in future models.

Mark White, the chief technical specialist of body engineering, explained the benefits of using the chassis.
He said: "The advantages of an aluminium structure are particularly compelling. Compared to a typical steel-bodied competitor, we estimate that the new Jaguar XJ can cut CO2 emissions by six tonnes per vehicle over the whole lifecycle."
Jaguar released the information as part of a comprehensive assessment into the sustainability and impact on the environment that the new XJ would have.
Motorists have the choice of three different petrol and diesel engines.
