US luxury car manufacturer Chrysler has announced plans to ditch bulky paper manuals for its cars in favour of electronic information packs.
Prestige car hire users sampling the carmaker's models, which include Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, will from 2010 be able to get information on the cars from instructional DVDs.
Chrysler says the green initiative will help it save 930 tonnes of paper and conserve 22,000 trees.
"As vehicles have increased in complexity, so has the size of traditional owners' manuals," explained Chrysler customer care chief executive officer Pietro Gorlier.
"With this new approach, we are making it much more convenient for customers to find the information they seek."
The DVDs will still be accompanied by a slimmed down full-colour printed user guide, which will be 80 pages long.
London car hire enthusiasts looking for a people carrier can opt for Chrysler's Grand Voyager, which can be obtained from vehicle rental firms.
