News has emerged that performance vehicle manufacturer Jaguar is currently working on a new five-door hatchback that could prove a hit with London
corporate car hire users.
The British marque is reportedly planning to start production work on the sports model, which could feature lightweight alloy bodywork and a V6 petrol engine, by around 2014, according to Auto Car.
Similar to the R-D6 concept car unveiled by the carmaker in 2003 at the Frankfurt motor show, the vehicle is aimed at serving as a deluxe yet practical machine.
A source revealed to the motoring magazine that "there's a growing feeling with the R-D6 that we really had something very innovative, fresh and different. Maybe we missed something back then, but the idea is even more applicable now".
The magazine added that exterior and interior design cues from the XJ are to be applied to the new vehicle's bodywork.
Jaguar's new XJ was recently described as "sensationally quick" by the Sun.
