enthusiasts will be shown a green future when the German car manufacturer unveils hybrid derivatives of the 7-series and X6 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Production versions of the two models will be showcased at the September event, highlighting the eco-friendliness of its EfficientDynamics technologies.

Visitors will also be treated to a new concept car that the vehicle manufacturer says will show features that may be standard in future BMW vehicles.

The company has announced that its EfficientDynamics Vision "will demonstrate how efficient a sports car can be" as well as proving that "sustainability does not apply to the drive train alone, but to design and materials as well".

"Anyone who takes a closer look at this concept car will understand the direction in which we are developing our technology," explained Dr Klaus Draeger, a member of BMW's management board.

BMW this week shocked the motorsports world by announcing that it is pulling its Sauber team out of Formula One next year to concentrate on more efficiency-enhancing projects.
