The entry-level xDrive30d will record a sub-200g/km CO2 reading, the first non-hybrid SAV to do so.
BMW highlighted the exterior changes that are present on its new car, such as new front bumpers with enlarged vents and xenon headlights which aim to modernise the look of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the car's rear also receives a facelift, with revised rear light clusters, enhanced exhaust pipes and a new bumper, which are said to help enhance the car's "athletic appearance" and "underscore its performance credentials".
The X5 was BMW's first attempt at a 4X4 vehicle when it was released in 1999.
