The new BMW 5-Series Saloon is retaining its place at the pinnacle of executive cars after a disappointing previous model.

Writing for Top Gear, Paul Horrell commends the new 5-Series Saloon car for its ability to give motorists a "fun" drive, as well as the improvements that the manufacturer has made compared to its predecessor.

Not only has the executive car hire vehicle undergone an exterior makeover, but Mr Horrell notes that technical improvements have also been made.

Improved versions of BMW's iDrive, run-flat tyres and active steering have been incorporated with a more "eager to please" design.

Mr Horrell writes in the review: "The 5-Series is undergoing a serious return to form.

"The 5-Series' ride is really excellent, both over big stuff and the sharp little zits that often upset sporty saloons. And wind and tyre noise are way down."

This new model represents the sixth generation of the 5-Series, which has been in production since 1972.
