The introduction of the new BMW 5-Series has been found to be the most highly anticipated arrival of 2010, according to a survey.

Research conducted by ContractHireAndLeasing.com has revealed that the executive car hire model from the German car company is getting motorists excited ahead of its launch.

The 5-Series picked up a total of 20 per cent of the vote from the poll, beating off strong competition from the Jaguar XJ and Audi A8, with 11 per cent and 14 per cent of the vote respectively.

Richard Lawton, spokesperson for the website, explained the vehicle's popularity: "The new 5-Series will be the first in its class to gain auto start/stop and will benefit from a host of BMWs EfficientDynamic technologies.

"In addition to that the new 5-Series is slightly larger than its predecessor yet it maintains strong performance and boosts fuel efficiency over the old model."

Some of the features motorists may be waiting to try out include the car's Head-Up Display, or the optional Park Assist technology which takes the stress out of parallel parking.
