BMW - the ultimate driving machine
Oct 16 2008, 05:03 PM
One of the most recognisable badges in the automotive world is one featuring four blue and white cone-shaped triangles encased in an annulus bearing three simple letters, B-M-W.

The logo, which is a stylised representation of a spinning propeller blade, according to gawlowski.com, is meant to represent the roots of the owner as a manufacturer of military airplane engines before turning to automobiles.

BMW, as it is commonly referred to, or Bayerische Motoren Werke, otherwise known as Bavarian Motor Works in English, is one of the most iconic carmakers enjoying a wide fan base of luxury car rental fans and other motorists.

Founded in 1916, BMW has over the years established itself as a leading manufacturer of high performance luxury cars, race cars, executive vehicles and motorcycles.

The move to automobile production came after the company abandoned aircraft engine manufacture, which came in 1928, less than five years after the German firm had already started motorcycle production.

Since then the Munich-based automaker has steadily churned out vehicles that have charmed their way into many garages across the world.

From the inspiring days of the M1 and the Model 319 4-Window Cabriolet of the 1930s to the Model 507 Roadster of the 50s and more recently the 1 series, the carmaker has evolved and now has roots in almost everything auto-related including the Formula One Championship.

Fighting with the likes of McLaren Mercedes and Italian carmaker Ferrari, BMW Sauber is among the top three strongest contenders in the racing championships that take place every year in venues across the world.

Today, countless models from BMW including the 1,3,5,6 and 7 Series range can be located almost in every corner with performance models such as the X3, X5 and X6 range proving popular with many car rental fans.

Other hot favorites include the M range of vehicles, which are represented by the E92 M3 Coupe, M3, M5 and the M6 Coupe, which also has a convertible.

The carmaker is continuously charting the way forward when it comes to the future and has quite a few inspiring concept cars and prototypes that leave BMW rental fans yearning for more.

Such models include the BMW Concept X1 and BMW GINA, which were unveiled this year.

In addition to its own range, BMW has also made a foray into interest areas and owns both the MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands, which expand its product portfolio.

With such a wide product range and list of fans the world over, BMW truly is the ultimate driving machine.
