Luxury car maker Bentley was the greenest car company at the New York auto show, according to board member Stuart McCullough.
He made the assertion talking to the New York Times' Jerry Garret, following the publication of the company's energy policy.
Bentley is set to continue producing the prestige and performance which luxury car hire customers have come to expect from the manufacturer, while cutting down the impact its models have on the environment.
"Bentley has built a reputation for superb performance, and these measures will in no way alter the character or performance of our vehicles," said Mr McCullough.
Among the commitments the car maker has undertaken are reducing carbon emissions by 15 per cent by 2012.
It is also set to introduce a powertrain that will allow its cars to make a 40 per cent improvement in fuel economy by the same date, with an target of 35 miles per gallon by 2020.
The white paper produced by the company also demonstrates that it is seeking to enable its whole range to operate with renewable fuels.
