Audi car hire enthusiasts may be interested to hear that the manufacturer expects orders to outweigh demand for its new A1 compact vehicle.
The German marque has predicted that the 50,000 versions of the model that it plans to build this year will not be enough to cope with the number of motorists looking to purchase one.
Audi has already announced that it will be upping production to 80,000 in 2011 and eventually 100,000 beyond that.
"In view of the high demand, orders could surpass the production capacity this year," Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi's head of sales and marketing, said in a statement.
Audi predicts that the majority of buyers for its A1 will be affluent young individuals who are first-time customers for the marque.
Motorists are able to choose from seven new A1 models including the 1.4 TFSI which, when equipped with the DSG gearbox, is able to propel the compact car to 62mph from still in 8.9 seconds.
