The Aston Martin Rapide has been named as one of the best designed cars of 2009 by a selection of car styling experts at the Geneva Motor Show, it has been announced.

In news that may excite Aston Martin car hire customers, the coveted four-door vehicle picked up the accolade in the Best Production Car category.

The results were based upon a survey conducted by Car Design News and presented during a design night in Geneva.

During his acceptance speech, Aston Martin's design director Marek Reichman thanked those who had voted for the Rapide "on behalf of a team that is very passionate about the brand".

Among the features that the judges may have noted are the high-performance coupe's elegant lines and attention to detail.

Aston says that the Rapide embodies the company's philosophy and commitment to providing powerful and visually stunning vehicles, alongside a practical element.

Other cars which faired well in the awards included the Cadillac Converj and Ferrari 458 Italia, while the Porsche Panamera failed to impress the design judges.
