At the touch of a dial on the centre console, drivers can comfortably switch from Controlled Efficiency to Sports, Sports Plus or Manual mode, reports What Car, which has reviewed the car.

The magazine said that the E63 "does the comfortable cruiser job as well as any E-Class, but transforms into a totally different beast as you turn these dials".

Gearchanges are also seamless, with the shifts taking just 100 milliseconds when the executive model is in the sports modes.

Featuring a 6.2-litre V8 engine hand-built by an individual technician from AMG, which is the German carmaker's performance arm, the vehicle can accelerate from standstill to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds.
